RECOGNIZING THE VALUE OF VETERANS: A STATEMENT REGARDING VETERANS DAY

Today, Columba and I join all Floridians in expressing our appreciation to
the men and women who have served in our nation's armed forces.  The
commitment to wear our nation's uniform in its defense is the noblest
expression of patriotism.  Today, in theatres across the world, American
servicemen and women continue to carry the banner of freedom to those
trapped in tyranny. Many of our sons and daughters now serve in Iraq,
Afghanistan, and other foreign posts around the world.  They carry forward a
grand tradition of unwavering service since our nation's founding. To these
and others who have ventured much for the cause of freedom, I offer our
state's thankfulness.  To the families of the fallen, I offer our state's
most profound gratitude.  In tribute to these heroes, past and present, I
have followed President Bush's direction by asking that flags at state and
local government facilities be flown at full-staff today.  On this Veterans
Day, with our nation at war, seek out military veterans in your community
and let each one know what they mean to a grateful state and nation.  The
