Pro-Life Congressman JC Watts on Roe v. Wade

Washington, DC-"I commend the thousands of students, children, moms, dads and citizens who have come to Washington to march for life today. Working together to promote respect for life is a goal that must never take a back seat to politics, convenience or semantics.

"Congress and the White House have taken steps to promote the sanctity of human life despite the majority leadership of the Senate. We upheld the president’s re-enactment of the Mexico City policy so taxpayer dollars don’t support groups who perform and promote abortion abroad. And we are making progress toward banning human cloning, passing the born alive infant protection act and finally sending the president legislation to protect unborn victims of violence.

"Over the past few months, we have come to recognize, as a nation, just how precious life is.

"As we discuss and debate abortion, it is important to promote the alternative option of adoption. To my colleagues in Congress who seek to reverse the tax relief law, I remind you of the fact that families who adopt a child this year are eligible for a $10,000 tax credit. Let’s not roll back this kind of progress."
